About the 4 Train
The 4 train is an express service on the IRT Lexington Avenue Line, one of the busiest rapid transit lines in the Western Hemisphere. It connects the northern Bronx to Brooklyn via the East Side of Manhattan.
The Lexington Avenue Line opened in 1918 as part of the Dual Contracts expansion. It quickly became the most heavily used subway line in the system due to serving Midtown East.
