About the A Train
The A train is the longest line in the NYC subway system, running from Inwood at the northern tip of Manhattan to Far Rockaway and the Rockaways in Queens. Made famous by Duke Ellington's jazz standard "Take the A Train."
The IND Eighth Avenue Line opened on September 10, 1932, as the first line of the city-owned Independent Subway System. It was designed with wider cars and higher platforms than the older IRT lines.
